Ladies and Gentlemen: Introducing
Another Option, the Libertarian Party
The Libertarian Party of Oklahoma would like to focus on creating a government that is responsible and focused in the next legislative session, and upcoming year. The Libertarian Party would also like to give Oklahomans another political option. For those people who feel like the two major parties have gone too far to either side or do not truly represent them--Libertarians want to provide middle ground, supporting both low taxes and respect for personal freedoms.
For years the status quo has ruled, with government growing in size and pet projects increasing in number. Many Americans are tired of the continued expansion of government into more corners of our lives and are demanding some real change in government. This change can come about through a healthy third party; finally some middle ground.
The Libertarian Party of Oklahoma is asking that in our Centennial, Oklahomans explore their political options. We also hope to see the two major parties in Oklahoma hold true to their words and work in a bi-partisan manner for a more accountable government.
Oklahoma Libertarians continue to focus on more accountability in government, and push for greater voter choice by reforming Oklahoma s ballot access laws, which are some of the most restrictive in the nation. Oklahoma was the only state to have just two choices for president in 2004. And in the 2006 general election, half of state legislative races went unopposed.
The Libertarian Party of Oklahoma also continues to advocate more accountability in education, as well as more accountability with taxpayer money. Educational tax credits, whether for individuals or donations to scholarships, would give families more options and hold schools more accountable. Likewise, it is time to take a closer look at state government subsidies, contracts, and grants and end corporate welfare. A step in the right direction would be to pass Transparency Acts that create searchable databases of state government spending and special interest tax credits.
So, in the spirit of progress during our state's 100th year, we hope Oklahomans will take a closer look at the Libertarian Party's message of Individual Liberty and Personal Responsibility.
