Update on Roger Bloxham - March 19th, 2005
From Lynn Atherton-Bloxham
Just a quick note to let all our dear LP friends know that Roger is out of
the hospital and home and ready for phone calls, and visits. He is very
weak and gets tired easily, but is gaining strength, balance, coordination
and speech improvement every day. Clark Ruell is coming by regularly for
physical therapy and we have a great little nurse that has moved in. His
mind and thinking are intact (albeit as different as it ever was) so life
is good in spite of some obstacles to overcome. Hope to see or hear from
you all soon. More later.
Update on Roger - Feb. 8th, 2005
Report by Jimmy Cook:
Lynn left a message on my answering machine yesterday. Roger is still in
intensive care but is improving dramatically. He still has a way to go
before he is ready to leave the hospital. But he is responding even more
to conversations and communicating with Lynn now. He still has a breathing
tube, so he can't talk. But but he can respond to yes or no questions with
head nods and hand gestures.
She is optimistic and even amazed to see how much he has improved the last
couple of days. Maybe soon he will be moved to a regular room and can get
a few visitors.
Roger Bloxham in the hospital
Jimmy Cook reported the following to Oklahoma Libertarians:
I spoke with Lynn Saturday afternoon. She was at home from the hospital to
take care of a few things. I caught her while she was there to ask about
Roger. She is optimistic about his condition, although he has quite a way
to go to recover.
He didn't have an aneurysm, but did have a blood clot in his head. They put
a shunt in to relieve the pressure. He has been so heavily sedated this
week that he has been unconscious more than he has been conscious. She said
the doctors wanted to keep him under sedation until his body can heal.
The good news is that although he hasn't spoken to anyone or tried to, he
does respond to simple requests and to the sound of Lynn's voice. She can
tell he understands what she is saying when she speaks to him. She talked
to him about a conversation she had with his daughter he moved his hand to
hers and held it. The doctors have asked him to look in their direction,
and he does. They aren't sure what has been damaged yet or how long he will
take to recover.
He is still in intensive care and I'm not sure when that will change. He
can't have any visitors and since Lynn spends most of her time there, she
may be hard to reach for a while. But by all means try to contact her. Lynn
is optimistic and we all know she is strong, but she could use our encouragement. She will pass on any messages we may have to Roger when she
talks to him.
He is going to have to recover soon, he hasn't flown his plane anywhere
yet. If anyone at 76 years old is strong enough to pull out from this, it
would be Roger Bloxham.
